Carthage broke a treaty with Rome by declaring war on Numidia. This started the third Punic War.
The Romans sent an army to North Africa. Carthage had withstood the Roman army for two years. Then the Romans put Scipio the Younger in charge and he lead an attack on its harbor side, pushing the enemy back to their citadel.
Carthage eventually surrendered and destroyed a long standing city in the process of the attack. The rest of the Carthaginians were sold into slavery.
Rome took control of North Africa and defeated King Philip V.
