1828-South Carolina Nullification
In 1828 Congress passed a high tariff on imported goods. Because of this the southern states were angry on the tax. South carolina even threatened to secede in the end congress to away the act and South carolina did not secede.
1836-Trail of Tears
Jackson ran for president in 1828 and almost won since he had the popular vote, but congress did not want someone who was violent and not rich so they picked John Adams instead because they favored the rich.
Congress passed a new tax on foreign goods that raised the price on the goods which was bad for the south. The states had the right to nullify the law but congress would not allow it. South Carolina threatened to secede and that when henry clay came up with compromise where congress lowered the tax on the goods
16000 Native Americans were moved to the west of the Mississippi because of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Travel there would take a long time but they made it, but 1/4 of the indians died in the process because of sickness or starvation
