  • Once before, Abigail and Proctor had a desire for one another. They show lust in the book by referring to previous actions they shared together.
  • Lies and Deceit 
  • Elizabeth has always had a reputation for doing what's best. She believes that lying about her husband's affair will help the situation. 
  • Pride

  • Parris shows greed by thinking he deserves the wood because he is the minister of Salem. He believes that he needs something in return for doing his job.

  • Abigail lies constantly throughout the book & throws many people under the bus. In this scene, it shows her blaming others of witchcraft, in which she tried to protect herself by doing so.

  • Giles shows pride by not pleading aye or nay, but instead by insisting that more weight is added to crush him. By doing this, he died Christian under the law and gave his sons his land.

  • Abigail and Betty show hysteria when yelling at each other. Abigail hits Betty when accusing her of drinking blood. Betty believes she can fly and she attemps to out of her bedroom window.
