Bruno is the protagonist of the story. He is 9 years old, and born on the 15th of April 1934. He lived in a big house in Berlin, before they had to move to "Out with" in Poland, because of his father's job. His father is a highly ranked, German officer.
I don't like it here. I want to move back to Berlin!
I think, because Bruno was born in a rich family, he has been taught good manners, and is a polite young boy. In addition to that, I believe that he is also very adventurous, because he runs out to explore even the places he is not allowed to go to. I think Bruno is trying his best to be a good friend.
Why do the people behind the fence wear pajamas?
It seems like Bruno is more interested in books about exploring, than books about the current situation in Germany. As I see it, Bruno is also spoiled, and unfamiliar with the world outside, because he does not understand that the jews in the camp, can live in such terrible conditions.
Shmuel is also the protagonist of the story. He is a 9 year old jew. Shmuel has been put in a concentration camp in "Out with". He has recently lost his father, and needs help to find him.
In my opinion, Shmuel is a quiet and sad boy. As I see it, although he has been through a lot, he is still kind and loyal to Bruno. I believe that Shmuel loves his father, and that he will do anything he can to see him again.
Shmuel seems like a kind boy, who appreciates the one friend that he gets. I believe that he is also a forgiving person, because even though his best friend Bruno betrayed him, Shmuel forgave him, and they became friends again.
