The main events were Jeannette joining the school newspaper to feel like she belongs but ended up getting treated meanly and when Dinitia told Jeannette she was pregnant but then went to jail for stabbing her mom's boyfriend to death. Jeannette started seventh grade starting on page 199. Jeannette thinks things will change for her but they didn't. They were still the same. She had Dinitia as a friend until she got taken away to jail for murder. When Jeannette joins the school paper she gets teased by the teachers that are there because they think that she is dirty. Those were the main events in this part of the book.

Even though Jeannette didn't trust boys, she wanted one to show interest in her.

Jeannette didn't like how her teeth looked so she made her own braces out of coat hangers.
Jeannette wanted to feel like she belonged so she joined the school newspaper.
