  • Simile-hair like moldy hay
  • The imagery describes how dark it was
  • Because of Tim the Redcoats use Bess as beat
  • Personification-she twisted her hands behind her; but the knots held good
  • The rhyme creates enjoyably sound
  • Bess kills herself to warn The Highway man
  • Repetition-tlot-tlot;tlot-tlot;had they heard it/tlot-tlot,tlot-tlot,in the distance
  • The simile suggest Tim's hair is raggedy
  • When The Highway man goes back for Bess the Redcoats kill him
