  • Act 2 begins with Macbeth killing the king. After Macbeth returns to his room and talks with Lady Macbeth, the drunk porter appears and wonders what is going on, after Macbeth talks with the porter for a while, everyone wakes up and realizes that the king has been murdered. This causes a lot of chaos in the castle and donalbain talks to Malcolm about leaving the country to stay safe. Afterwards, Macduff speaks to an old man abouth the king.

  • Lady Macbeth talks with Macbeth after he has murdered the king. She tells him that if he thinks about what he did he will go crazy. This elaborates on the theme "Insanity is the result of a guilty conscience" because his guilty thoughts about murdering the king are making him go crazy.
