  • The theme 'Absolute power corrupts sanity' emerges during the first act when the three witched appeared to Macbeth and Banquo to deliver the prophecy. "
  • Tone
  • Throughout the course of Macbeth, his mental health starts to deteriorate more and more, but the first really big sign we can see is when Macbeth is talking to the dagger before he kills the king." Asthis which now I draw. [He draws his dagger.] Thou marshl'st  me the way that I was going, And such an instrument I was to us .” (243, line42-44) Using personification because he is thinking the dagger is leading him
  • Connotation & Denotation
  • "If th’ assassination Could trammel up the consequence..."
  • As the theme develops, one of the scenes that Macbeth is really crazy is the dinner scene. "The table's full. Here is a place reserved, sir. Where?" This is where Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost and thinks he is sitting at the table. No one else see's Banquos ghost except for Macbeth. Macbeth's sanity is crumbling be
  • Figurative Language
  • The tone of Macbeth is mostly dark. Lady Macbeth says, "Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires." The connotation of the word black is negative in this phrase and is explaining that Lady Macbeth has bad intentions and plans and doesn't want people to see that she has them.
  • Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires
  •
  • One form of figurative language from Macbeth was when they said, "As this which now I draw[he draws the dagger] Thou marsh;'st me the way that I was going, and such an instrument I was to use" This sentence shows personification because ifs showing real life characteristics to non-living things and saying that the dagger was leading him to kill the king. This ties into the theme because it is showing Macbeth's craziness because a dagger cannot lead you and does not have human traits.
