Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia seceded. All those states along with South Carolina got together and formed a new government and then were called the Confederate States of America.
There was a lot of controversy over secession. Many Southerners were happy and celebrated it, where some of the others did not agree and were upset. The difference between the Southerners' thoughts caused problems.
