There once was a mortal girl named Arachne, who was admired for her gift of waving
Arachne knew she was good at weaving, so she often boasted. She even went as far to say that she was better then the goddess Minerva.
The goddess heard of this and discuised as an old woman and visited Arachne.She complimented Arachne on her work, but Arachne just boasted. Although the woman warned the girl of being to arragant, Arachne just ignored her.
Minerva then revealed herself and challenged Arachne to a weaving contest. Minerva stitch of the god'g good deeds, but Arachne stitched told of the gods being cruel and selfish.
After the contest had finished, Minerva examined Arachne's flawless work, but she was angered by the way she had disrespected the gods. Arachne became terrified and tried to hang herself.
Minerva took pity on the girl and stopped her. She then turned Arachne into a spider, so her desendants will weave for eternity.
