Ally has moved from school to school her whole life. At this school, Mr. Daniels and Ally instantly click. He teaches Ally how to play chess in hope that it will help her in school and to have fun.
As the school year progresses Ally is bullied by her classmates. There are two kids that stand up for Ally. Keisha and Albert become best friends with Ally and they get closer and closer through out to the book.
Ally has a hard time with everything she does in life because she is dylexic. She starts to think she is stupid and that she doesn't have a future due to her condition.
When Keisha, Albert, and Ally are walking home they run into three boys that always pick on Albert. One of them pushes Keshia to the ground and that's when Albert finally fights back. He throws one of the boys to the ground and the other two get scared and run away.
Ally gets nominated to run for class president against Shay but is very hesitant to take the offer. After she finally decides to do it she then has to write a speech. Ally struggles to write and her speech but in the end, she wins.
Ally 's brother also has dyslexia. He works at a garage and he loves fixing things to make them new. One day he hopes to have his own garage but is struggling to focus in school. At the end of the book, Ally asks Mr.Daniels if he can help Travis learn how to read and write too.
