In August 1776, the British won the Battle of Brooklyn using a clever move : by attacking Washington and his troops from behind.
As George Washington and his men sailed to Trenton, there were delays. There were sleets of ice and snowfall, so the army arrived later then expected. But once they've arrived, they charged into Hessian territory.
The British decided to march south after reclaiming Fort Ticonderoga, and later on the Patriots did successfully block them in the second battle of Saratoga on October 7th, 1777.
Winter at Valley Forge was tough for the Continental army. They were stationed there because they needed to keep an eye out for the British army, trying to get food they needed. Although, these soldiers had some major problems staying at valley forge.
The battle of Cowpens and Guilford was between the British and the Patriots. A misunderstanding by the Americans led them to winning this fight. Colonel Howard ordered his men to face sideways, but they retreated mistakenly, and won.
The continental army had teamed up with the French to try and seize the land and halt the British redcoats. With such attempt, that led to winning and also led the British to remember that the colonies were splitting with them.
