  • Terry Fox was born in 1958 and in around 1977 he figured out that he had bone cancer in his knee. This was a very bad news for him, and he knew he had little time but his determination to help others with cancer grew as people where running the New York Marathon. Fox soon decided to run across Canada in support of cancer research.

  • Terry Fox leg was amputated 15 cm above the knee, but that didn't matter to him because in 1979 Terry fox started training and using his prosthetic leg to run/walk long distances. The prosthetic leg helped people that needed support, and gave Terry a goal in mind, running across Canada to raise money for cancer research.
  • As Terry started running, A lot of people supported him along the way, and donated money for the cause. Although he did have some complications with his prosthetic, that did not stop him from achieving his goal.

  • In September 1, 1980, Terry makes it halfway across Canada but had to retire near thunder bay due to cancer growing in his lungs, this time affecting his breathing a lot.
  • Terry was sent to the hospital but they couldn't do anything. The cancer that Terry had in his lounges has taken over, and can not continue his marathon. He died the following year on June 28, 1981.
  • Terry Fox's memory goes on today, with several schools celebrating his marathon and joining in yearly races to raise funds for cancer research. Due to Terry Fox, Canadians from across the globe have collected over $600 million for cancer research as in goal of one day eradicating this dreadful disease for good.
