Silk was used for decorating things and also in less fancy ways, like musical instruments, fishing, and making bows.
The people wanted silk becase it made them look wealthy and rich. Wearing silk was an important status symbol.
At first, only royals were allowed to wear silk. Then it was expanded to the noble class. Oh, and did you know that silk was considered so valuable that they even used it as money for a little while?
