  • The buddha, or siddhartha Gautama, was born around 567 B.C.E.,In a kingdom just below the Himalayan foothills in Lumbini, near Nepal and India. His father was a chief of Shakya Clan. It is said that the brahmins prophesied that he would become either a universal monarch or a great sage. So that his son wouldn't even think of becoming a sage, he decided to give Siddhartha all the comfort and pleasure that only a prince could get. he was even shielded from the outer world by building a high wall surrounding the whole palace.
  • on his way to the palace
  • Siddhartha spend his childhood in luxuries and was trained to become a powerful warrior. He married a beautiful lady named, Pali Yasodhara and had a son named Rahula. After many years, Siddhartha decided to see his father's kingdom which would become his when his father dies. When he went to the town, he was happy to see the people enjoying their lives just like the comfort he was having in his kingdom.
  • leaving lives of the luxuries
  • Thank you, for the simple cloths that you have given in exchange for the sword and my cloths.
  • But as he goes on, he starts to see horror and sadness that covers the face of the people who are injured, starving, and how death takes over people, so quickly. He starts to feel the pain that those people are having.
  • Siddhartha becomes a buddha
  • As Siddhartha was going to his palace. After seeing such horrible things, he saw an ascetic, who was peacefully walking, wearing simple cloths and carrying a simple bowl of a sadhu {a holy man , sage, or ascetic}. He was confused why a person can be so peaceful even if he does not have any of the luxuries that a person can have. When he asked his charioteer about it, he told him that the person had left his family and given up his desire for pleasures to search for freedom from worldly suffering.
  • After seeing so much suffering in his father's kingdom, he resolved to leave the palace in search of the answer to the problem of suffering. After bidding his wife and child a silent farewell without waking them, he rode to the edge of the forest. There he cut his hair with his sword and exchanged his fine cloths for the simple robes of an ascetic, as he has seen the peaceful man as he went through his palace.
  • Soon, a picture began to form in his mind of all that occurred in the universe, and Siddhartha finally saw the answer to the questions of suffering that he had been seeking. In that movement of pure enlightenment, Siddhartha Gautama became the buddha {"he who is awake"}. The buddha died in 483 B.C. at the age of 80.
