Storyboard Text

  • "She laid aside her sewing, stood up, and went forward to kiss him as he came in."
  • “This is going to be a bit of a shock to you, I’m afraid,” he said. “But I’ve thought about it a good deal and I’ve decided the only thing to do is tell you right away. I hope you won’t blame me too much.”
  • "When she walked across the room she couldn’t feel her feet touching the floor. She couldn’t feel anything at all – except a slight nausea and a desire to vomit. Everything was automatic now – down the steps to the cellar, the light switch, the deep freeze, the hand inside the cabinet taking hold of the first object it met."
  • This quotes and image shows that Mary Maloney loved her husband, and she was excited for him to arrive back at home. She was playing the role of the average 1950's women to love her husband, and to give him her full attention.
  • "At that point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head."
  • This quote explains the moment when Patrick told Mary that he wanted a divorce. Mary was very shocked and didn't know what to think. As the normal 1950's women she was supposed to let it go, and let him do what he wanted without any question.
  • "A few minutes later she got up and went to the phone. She knew the number of the police station, and when the man at the other end answered, she cried to him, “Quick! Come quick! Patrick’s dead!”
  • This quote shows that Mary was in shock, and didn't know what to do so she decided to make supper. Mary then got back on track and started to do what she was supposed to as a women in the 1950's.
  • “Personally, I think it’s right here on the premises.” “Probably right under our very noses. What you think, Jack?” And in the other room, Mary Maloney began to giggle."
  • This quote shows that Mary was tired of being treated as a slave. She was going along with the whole role of a 1950's women, but she was done. She was ready to be able to control herself and make her own choices. This could also show that Mary is very violent, and maybe she had been planning this for a while because she played it off like nothing had happened.
  • This quote shows that Mary knew she had done something wrong or she was going to try and trick the police. The policemen searched the home and gathered evidence to find out what had killed Patrick. Mary didn't give herself up and tried to cover up for herself by making it look like someone else did it.
  • This quote shows that Mary tricked the policemen and women into eating the evidence. She didn't want them to find the evidence and accuse her of the murder.  This proves that Mary is a very deceiving person and that she is very smart.
