Storyboard Text

  • The setting of Warriors Don't Cry was in a small town, Little Rock, Arkansas that took place in the late 1950's. Little Rock had just began integration.
  • Setting
  • Melba (Protagonist) was an ordinary girl who had the desire to go to a new high school but segregationist (antagonist) would stop at nothing to keep them out.
  • Protagonist/antagonist
  • You don't belong here! Leave!!
  • P/V
  • The story was told from Melba's eye view/perspective in first person.
  • Conflict
  • The conflict was person vs person. Melba and the other students tried to integrate Central High School, but the segregationist deeply opposed that idea and fought a hard battle to keep them from staying.
  • Plot
  • Melba's life made a quick turn around because of integration. The constant violence toward her was hard to handle, she nearly lost faith in her own life.
  • I'll kill you if you don't leave.
  • Mood/Tone
  • Thank you very much.
  • I was frightened when I read about how inhumane people can be. At the same time I was inspired by Melba's determination to finish her sophomore year at Central High.
  • You look hideous and you're stupid.
  • Huh?
  • Resolution/Theme
  • At the end of the story Melba survived her sophomore year without having to drop out and staying alive. Integration in Little Rock blossomed from that point.
  • The theme of the story is, your ambition is the fruit of your goals but you must have the will to claim it.
