"The pierced ball hissed broiling and the roots popped
"we are from Troy, Achaeans blown off course"
Odysseus and the crew are traveling to this island to get food after being at sea. Odysseus brought men down to come with him.
Once they arrived onto the island they found themselves in a huge cave which contained many lambs and a huge cheese supply. After exploring for a while the cyclopse came home, standing in shock Odysseus and his crew explained their presence. The cyclopse was upset and picked up one of the men eating him. To react to this, Odysseus planned that the way no men would be killed if the giant got drunk and stabbed so that is exactly what he did, and it worked!
Once stabbed, the cyclopse ran with pain and tried to find Odysseus and his men to get them. Instead he ran outside of his home screaming for help. Since Odysseus told him that his name was "nobody". The neighbors ignored his claim and Odysseus and his crew were able to escape underneath the sheep. They sailed away without the cyclopse attacking them.
