- JoannaA Woman of Faith and Courage
- Joanna is a Jewess, married to Chuza, a steward in Herod Antipas house. She enjoys a comfortable life, thanksto her husbands prominent position. She has become accustomed to the respect that she gets in the community.
- One day her husband comes home and delivers the shocking news that he has just witnessed the murder of John the Baptist at Herod's birthday party. He wonders if any amount of money or position is worth working for such a man..he has also overheard him speaking of the man Jesus who has been drawing a lot of attention from his teachings and miracles.
- Joanna becomes very ill. Chuza is distraught and feels helpless..but Joanna knows where to turn. The man she has heard so much of, Jesus, is different from the greedy religious and political leaders they have become disgusted with seeing around them. Chuza agrees that if she thinks Jesus can help her she should seek him out.
- Joanna hears that Jesus is in her area and approaches him in faith, knowing he can help her. She receives the physical cure she sought, but she also stays to listen to him speak, an event that would change everything. She knows that this is the promised Messiah. Will she continue to spend her time on mundane activities or will she have the courage to do what she can to support Jesus?
- Joanna, now possibly a widow, joins Jesus and the 12 disciples on some of their travels, supporting them and having the privilege of being taught spiritually, even though that was not the custom of her day. Regardless of how others may have viewed her, she chose to use what she had to show her support for Jesus and the disciples. She sticks with him until the end, witnessing Jesus' execution, but also learning of Jesus' resurrection from angels to appear to she , Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James.
