  • By Mark Horn
  • Muhammad is born in the town of Makkah, around 570 C.E. He is soon sent to live with a desert nomad family according to custom by his mother.
  • Muhammad returns to his mother when he is 5 or 6, but she soon dies, so he is sent to his grandfather, Abu al-Muttalib. His grandfather also dies, and he is then finally sent to his uncle, Abu Talib
  • Fifteen years after marrying Khadija and becoming a successful merchant, Muhammad is now 40. He goes to pray in a cave in the mountains, and is called to prophet hood by the angel Gabriel.
  • Around 613 C.E., Muhammad begins to preach to other Makkans, but they reject his teachings and boycott him and his followers. This year he also took a ride on a winged horse to meet the other prophets and travel through the seven layers of Heaven. As more Muslims come under attack, Muhammad and his followers move to Yathrib for protection.
  • In 630 CE, Muhammad takes his army to Makkah and they give up without a fight, he then brakes all the idols in the Ka'ba and rededicates the Shrine to Allah. He also forgives his enemies, ending the war. In March 632, he travels to Makkah and delivers his Last Sermon, dying shortly after.
