Storyboard Text

  • The Tibet-Qinghai Plateu is a rocky land surrounded by towering mountains. Because the plateu is so high, its climate is very cold. The air is thin and dry, so snow continues to fall even in the summer months.
  • BRRRRR. Its FREEZING!
  • Tibet-Qinghai Plateu (p. 214)
  • The Taklimakan Desert name means "once you go in, you will not come out". Legend has it, that two armies and 300 cities are buried 600 feet beneath the sand dunes.
  • Hello? HELLOO?
  • The Taklimakan Desert (p. 215)
  • The Gobi Desert is stony. It covers up small pebbles and tiny bits of sand. Vegetation is sparse. Plants tend to be small and widely spaced apart.

  • The Northeastern Plain (p. 216)
  • The Northeastern Plain natural vegetation is mostly prairie grass, which in ancient times provided food for horses and other animals. The climate is short summers and dry and cold.
  • This Plain is sometimes called the "Land of the Yellow Earth" because the ground is covered in yellow limestine silt, which comes from the Gobi desert and carried by the wind.
  • The North China Plain (p. 217)
  • The Chang Jiang Basins climate is warm and wet. In ancient times, the vegetation may have been thick rain forest. Although there was little space for farming and the area was not suitable for grazing animals, the basins were very good for growing rice, which needs abundant warmth and moisture
  • Whew! I finally finished, took all day!
  • The Chang Jiang Basins (p. 218)
