  • On June 28, 1778, General Charles Lee's cavalry troops attacked General Sir Henry Clinton's rearguard. This is when the battle began.
  • Be ready!
  • The fighting continued as a series of sporadic, uncoordinated clashes.
  • General George Washington was puzzled when he saw American troops not where he assigned them to be, only to find out General Lee gave troops different orders. This angered General Washington and he took charge.
  • General George Washington placed the American soldiers in a defensive line along the west ravine.
  • When the British arrived, American troops attacked and the British were burnt out.
  • Although tactically a draw, it was a strategic victory for the Continental Army and General Washington.
