  • Virginia Apgar became a physician, but was best known for her work in obstetrics and anesthesia.P.S. I know at this time their was no mixed race marriages, but I wanted to add one.
  • Virginia Apgar invented "The Apgar Newborn Scoring System". This became widely used to assess a newborn's health.
  • She becomes the first female board-certified anesthesiologist and the first professor of anesthesiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. (1949-1959)
