At the husking bee, everyone gathers around to husk the harvest's corn, and if you find a red ear, it means that you will get married next. Judith finds one but thinks John is marrying her, so she gives it to William, for him to give Kit.
On the way to the Husking Bee, John tells Kit that he wants to call on Mercy, and Kit is very happy about that, but when John actually goes to tell Matthew, Judith assumes that he wants to court her, and everyone else in the Wood household assumed that John wanted to court Judith as well.
Thee has not escaped at all if love is not there.
The Charter of Connecticut is a charter that tells the people of Connecticut their rights over their land. The new Governor Andros from England wants to take away the charter. While the charter was being debated about, the lights went out, the charter went missing, and is now apparently "safe".
Nat and two other seamen from the Dolphin put jack-o-lanterns in William's bare windows on All Hallows Eve because Nat was jealous of William courting Kit. The punishments were spending time in the stocks, a fine of 40 shillings, and banishment from Wethersfield.
Kit tells Hannah about William, and Kit tells Hannah that she isn't sure that she wants to marry William. She learns from Prudence that Nat is banished from Wethersfield, and Kit feels very sad when she hears what Nat had done.
Prudence is much happier now, and she will keep going to Hannah's because she feels happy there. She feels very excited when she writes for the first time, and the three will probably be together again.
