  • The main setting of this book is at Central High school, where Melba went to school.  Another main setting was at her house. The protagonist of the book is Melba, which means she is the main character. She is kind of shy, but can defend herself when she needs to.
  • Falling action  /  Resolution

  • There are many conflicts in this book, but a main one is when Link was talking to Melba. He was asking her if she could try and get a doctor for his Nana because she won't get one herself.  The exposition of the book starts off with Melba  stating that she wants everyone to have equal rights.

  • The rising action is when Melba goes to Central High for her first time and people start making a crowd over her and she is pushed out of the school by segregationists. Then, the Climax is when Melba gets assigned a body guard and when she is in class, kids throw things at her.

  • For the Falling action, Melba moved to California with rich white people to finish school. Then for the Resolution, she goes back to central high years later and she is greeted by the student president who is an African American.

  • The antagonist of this book was the white population of central high and their family members.
  • In Melba's diary entries it seems that she felt that the whole world was against her when everyone wasn't against her.
