  • Knights went on this mission to have their sins forgiven (as Pope Urban once said), or for wealth (according to Robert of Clari, who witnessed the looting of Constantinople).

  • The Crusades
  • Many Muslims died during the Crusades (Raymond d' Aguliers gave a rather lovely description), and Jews were also killed by Christians because they didn't believe in Christ.  However, the Europeans did trade more with the Middle East as a result!  Any questions?

  • The Crusades
  • Well, it really depends.  The Christians learned many new things as a result, but there was a lot of death.  It's really a mix of both.
  • Were the Crusades worth it?
  • The consequences of the Crusades were great, and we can still see the effects of what happened today.  The Muslims and Christians still argue over who really owns Jerusalem, and if the Christians didn't gain valuable knowledge from the Arabs, it's possible that they could be behind everyone else right now.
