  • Every townsperson gathers in the center of the town for the yearly lottery.
  • Falling Action
  • The head of every family in the town picks a slip of paper. Once everyone has picked they open the slips to reveal who picked the black dot.
  • Resolution
  • Bill Hutchinson opens his slip up and sees a black dot. His family then has to draw between themselves.
  • Literary Term - Irony
  • Once each member picks a slip they open them to reveal Tessie has gotten the black spot.
  • The townspeople grab stones and begin to throw them at Tessie.
  • The irony in this story is that you believe winning the lottery is a positive thing but it turns out to be horrible as you get rocks thrown at you if you win.
