Storyboard Text

  • Hey Nick! I have a Trigonometry test tomorrow, but I don't know anything. Will you help me?
  • I'll be glad to help you. Trigonometry deals with the relations of sides and angles.
  • Why do we use Sine, Cosine and Tangent?
  • Those are the main functions in Trigonometry. It helps us give a name to each side of a right triangle.
  • How are Sine, Cosine and Tangent used? How can I remember them?
  • Just remember SOH CAH TOA, which will help you deterime the sides.
  • Sine is SOH which is opposite over hypotenuse. Cosine is CAH which is adjacent over hypotenuse and Tangent is TOA which is opposite over adjacent.
  • There are also other uses of Trigonometry.  It is used in oceanography in calculating the height of tides in oceans. It's fundamental to the theory of periodic functions, those that describe the sound and light waves. Calculus is made up of Trigonometry and Algebra.
  • Thanks so much, Nick! This helped me a lot. I think I might have an attraction to Trigonometry now.
  • Sarah, I hope this helped you understand the basic concept of trigonometry and help you get ready for your test.
