Storyboard Text

  • Jefferson purchases the Louisiana territory from Napoleon. But Napoleon was only in it for gaining money to go into war after losing to Toussaint L'Ouverture as he lead the Haitians to victory on the slave revolt.
  • I'll take the land.
  • Jefferson
  • Once I have this money, I will be unstoppable in war!
  • Napoleon
  • Jefferson needed to check out the land. He chose Lewis (his personal secretary ) and Clark( who was a friend of Lewis.)
  • Jefferson
  • You guys must lead and explore the new land I have purchased from Napolean.
  • Lewis
  • Okay, we will.
  • Clark
  • 40 explores started up the Missouri River. Lewis and Clark established good relationships with the natives they came across. They befriended a Shoshone woman whose language skills and knowledge of geography would be of great value to Lewis and Clark.
  • Sacagawea
  • Sacagawea could help us communicate and explore during our expedition!
  • The expedition had to stop at the Great Falls of Missouri. This is where the chief traded horses to Lewis and Clark, and the Shoshone helped them cross the Rocky Mountains.
  • Thank you for the horses! They will be very helpful with our traveling.
  • Lewis, Clark, and troops started the journey home on a "shortcut" past the Great Falls.
  • Lewis and Clark brought back tales of adventure as well as scientific and geographical information about the territory to share.
