"Soldiers then began the sad job of locating dead comrades and carrying them back to their side of the battle line. While this was being done, other soldiers dug graves out of the now-frozen earth and the dead were buried."(Murphy, 74)
Both of the armies were celebrating Christmas and didn't want to be killed like their companions so both armies decided to sign a temporary truce.(45)
Signposts- Contrast and Contradiction
"They had been induced to fight in part because they'd been led to believe the enemy was inferior to them or a mindless monster. What they were now hearing might be in a different language from theirs, but the sounds were still very familiar."(46)
Truce By Jim Murphy
Mindset- Open to New Ideas
Since nobody wanted to continue the war, they all wanted to just sign a truce and get it over with.
To leave their family, the men had to be very determined to bring peace to their country.
Summary- If/ Then & Aha! Huh?
If Germany and France both sign a truce, then will that forever hold the peace between them?
The difference is that when everyone started out in the war they thought the enemies were monsters but now they're seeing that the Germans are just as miserable as they are in their trenches.
Warming up to the idea, the two countries started to wonder if a truce was going to be the best way to end the war.
Persist without hope- If you fail, try try again- Words can't bring me down- Never take failure as an answer- Dedication
That there was a Christmas truce and a New Years truce. I can't believe that the French keep denying a truce between the countries.
