  • The Elizabeth Incident At Takapuneke.
  • "I am Chief Te Rauparaha. You will do as I say!"
  • "I am your Chief, Te Maiharanui. What's going on here?"
  • Are They reading stories about me?
  • By Melissa Duncan
  •    STOP
  • I am so offended by what he just said, I will get utu (revenge) on his iwi. But I still do like the Pounamu here in the South Island.
  • "I am Kaikoura Chief Rerewaka. And I will rip your belly out with a barracuda tooth, if you come any further South."
  • Te Rauparaha is one of the two great chiefs, who lived in the north island controlling his iwi and defending it at the same time. "He established a successful trading base with the European ships. Flax was the main trade, so they could make ropes."
  • Welcome to
  • HELP!!
  • The other great chief is Te Maiharanui. He lives in the upper South Island, running a flax trade business and collecting Pounamu. "Stories passed down claim he was so revered and feared people avoided stepping in his shadow, as they believed it would break tapu (sacred) and they would be cursed."
  • KILL THEM!
  • I must escape fast.
  • Te Rauparaha liked the idea of having the pounamu from the South Island and the flax trade business was effecting his own flax trade. But Te Rauparaha tried travelling further south, then found himself in trouble  Kaikora Chief was so mad he offended Te Rauparaha by saying "I will rip your belly out with a barracuda  tooth if he were to come any further south."
  • Te Rauparaha and his mana (tribe) decided to launch a war party on the Pa (village) living in Kaikora. This was utu (revenge) on Rerewaka's insult. 1400 villagers were killed or enslaved by Te Rauparaha's tribe and left Rerewaka to die tortuously and painfully. "Te Rauparaha then wanted to take down Ngai Tahu's major headquarters at Kaipoi."
  • Kaikoura
  • Yes!! I succeeded. The power is all mine.
  • "A survivor from Omihi arrived and secretly informed the Ngai Tahu chiefs of Te Rauparaha's murderous acts." Seven of Te Rauparahas' high ranked generals were caught and eaten with their bones made into fish hooks. Te Rauparaha's uncle named Te Pehi Kupe was included in one of the seven men. But luckily, Te Rauparaha himself had found a way to escape and wanted utu (Revenge).
