In the short story the scenery is described as an old, depressing, house surrounded by decaying tree's and a lake. The Usher invites the narrator over to his mansion and discuss things.
The conflict presented in this story is that Rodrick Usher's sister suddenly dies and is buried/kept in the basement of the house. The Usher becomes mentally and physically ill and soon both the narrator and the Usher soon become superstitious of the house.
Rodrick and the narrator get reacquainted with one another by reading, painting, and talking.The narrator starts noticing strangeness in the house, and soon him and the Usher begin to fear the house all together.
The sister, Madeline becomes ill and soon dies that very night. They soon discover her death and decide to store her body in the basement of the house. After her death, more strange occurrences happen. They soon come in contact with the corpse in a white robe and covered with blood.
The Usher dies from the horrific sight of his sister, and ends up falling into her dead arms . The narrator runs from the house leaving his friend and the horrific sight behind.
The narrator fled from the house, and the house destroys itself erasing traces of it existing and taking Lady Madeline, and the Usher with it.
