On December 1878, to hide the fact that he dropped out of the University, he cut all ties with his families. It was so sudden his friends thought he drowned in a river. He later when to America with only 4 cents in his pocket.
Tesla offered to redesign Edison's machines which were inefficient at the time. Edison liked the idea and agreed and said he would pay him 1 million dollars in today's currency. However when he did as he was told Edison ripped him off and laughed. Tesla left the Edison company after.
Edison's great mind became his downfall. He was publicly shame, he was depressed. His failures led to more failures. This all led to a mental breakdown, which he became clinically insane. He couldn't tell the difference between reality and illusions. To which he spent many hours tirelessly in his lab.
