  • Representative Democracy
  • Thank you for voting for me to become the President of the United States.
  • Oligarchy
  • That's not fair!
  • Now that the civil war is over, only the military will have power in the government.
  • Theocracy
  • God will be recognized as our divine leader. Our laws of government will be based on God's beliefs.
  • Also known as a republic, a representative democracy allows citizens to vote for leaders to represent them. These leaders govern the country but the citizens have the ultimate power.
  • Monarchy
  • As the new king, I declare higher taxes will take effect this year.
  • In oligarchies, a small number of people rule the government. Often, certain groups of people are restricted from having political rights.
  • Anarchy
  • Without a government, no laws are stopping people from taking my food.
  • Religion plays an important role in theocracies. God or a divine being is seen as the ultimate authority.
  • Dictatorship
  • Without approval from my people, I am banning freedom of speech.
  • A king or queen makes up the government in monarchies. In modern monarchies, power is shared between the monarchs and other parts of government.
  • Nobody is in control of the government in an anarchy. It can also be stated that everyone is in control depending on how you look at it. 
  • A dictator has complete control over the citizens. The dictator has control over the constitution and other parts of the government as well.
