"This whole valley breaths and lives," he said, sweeping his arm toward the distant mountains that guarded them. "It gives us the grapes and then they welcome us." Pg:1 This means that the valley has rich soil and provides food for Papa and Esperanza. Also, the valley gives them grapes and they make money through them.
