Phaethon and Epaphus brag about which one of their fathers are better gods. Zues, the god of thunder, is Epaphus' father and Apollo, the god of the sun, is Phaethon's.
Epaphus then begins to brag about how CLOSE he is to Zeus, but Phaethon has never met Apollo. Instead of dismissing the conversation, Phaethon creates a lie about how he is so close to Apollo that he allows him to drive the sun chariot alone. Phaethon states he will drive the chariot around the roof of Epaphus' house 3 times to prove it's him.
