  • The British did not agree with the United States deals to avoiding war.The United States was confident about winning but they were low on money, navy battle ships, and had a low number of men that were not all trained for combat.   
  • Battle of Washington 
  • The British set up a blockade on the American coast and by 1814 the British navy had 135 warships blocking the American port. A blockade is the action of shutting a port or road to prevent people or supplies form coming into or leaving an area. 
  • Battle of Baltimore
  • In July 1812, American troops went to invade Canada but retreated because of the lack of soldiers, however they were captured by the British and the Native Americans. In 1813,at Lake Erie,the US and Canada were battling and the US won after 3 hours 
  •  Battle of New Orleans
  • In August 1814,British forces marched to the Nations capital and set a number of government buildings on fire. The President and wife fled the White house with important papers, and Americans were shocked that their army could not defend Washington DC.  
  • The British's next goal was defeating Fort McHenery, which protected the city's harbor. The British attacked on September 13, 1814, but the US won, beating the British in attack.
