  • Impacts of The Cold War on Kuwait

  • Iraq: Yay!
  • Russia: Russia has decided that we like Iraq more than Kuwait but still respect Kuwait as an ally.
  • Iraq: We are here to invade!
  • Kuwait: OH NO!
  • Kuwait: Financially, we are struggling. They stole our money and now we have to supply water!
  • Even though Kuwait was a close ally to Russia, Russia favored Iraq. This lead to Kuwait actively lobbying members of the Gulf Cooperation Council. It also established diplomatic relations with Soviets. These events ended diplomatic isolation of superpower amongst countries on Arabian Peninsula.
  • Kuwait: This war has destroyed our land and deserts!
  • When Iraq invaded, extraordinary and extremely dangerous situations were created on the Persian Gulf. Iraq wanted no ties to Kuwait while invading so they demanded that the Soviet Union evacuate their embassy in Kuwait. During the invasion, about 1,000 Kuwaiti civilians were killed, and about 400,000 fled the country. this invasion still affects the health of the citizens.
  • Kuwait: By the end of this, all of our oil will be gone!
  • During the invasion over $1,000,000,000 banknotes were taken from Kuwait. Iraq demanded that Kuwait pay their war debt, but Kuwait denied. Kuwait was already losing money, but they were then asked to supply drinking and irrigation water for Iraq, which cost them more money.
  • Due to the war, Kuwait's deserts' rigid surface layers were destroyed. This destruction increased the amount of wind-borne sand. It also created more, larger sand dunes
  • While under attack, Kuwait's oil well were looted. Those that weren't looked, where set on fire by the Iraqis. At one point, Iraq lied about Kuwait taking their oil in order to get money.
