  • Type 2 diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the US. Anyone can develop it whether it could have been prevented or not.

  • Some people may need to take pills or tablets to help regulate their blood sugar. Others may need an injection of insulin. Many people who only have pre diabetes just have to watch what they eat. This disease can have a drastic consequence on the person and their family because if you do not get treatment, this can shorten your life greatly.
  • People of certain races, such as Hispanics and Native Americans, have higher risks of becoming a diabetic. People who are also of an older age and who have a diabetic family history have higher risks as well.

  • People who are overweight and eat a poor diet are more prone to be a diabetic. You can help prevent against it by eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight, and staying active.
  • Staying active will have a positive impact. For instance, playing hockey would be a fun way to get exercise. When you stay active, your cells become more sensitive to insulin so they can work more efficiently. This helps lower your blood sugar.
  • You can prevent high blood sugar by eating a healthy diet and watching your sugar intake. You can help prevent against diabetes just by eating right, staying active, and watching your weight.
