In the beginning Tom Walker meets the devil and agrees to screw over his clients in order to gain wealth. Tom Walker is very greedy from the beginning and tends to stay that way for the majority of the story.
Tom Walker runs a very successful loaning business in the city of Boston Massachusetts. He really enjoys his job because of all the wealth it has given him. Tom Walker is starting to feel bad for his clients and is feeling regret by his decision of agreeing with the devil.
Tom Walker was getting ready to foreclose on a mortgage with the land-jobber, when the devil shows up. The devil takes him away and presumably, kills him. In this instance, Tom Walker does not seem to be changed from how he was in the beginning and most of the middle parts of the story.
