Storyboard Text

  • Hey friends! Today I am here to teach you about what led to the formation of the populist party out here in the West, and what the farmers wanted during this event. Trust me, you will understand this event way better after you learn this information!
  • You may wonder, what led to the formation of the populist party in 1890? Well, several farm groups wanted to have political power, and so they all decided to come together and create one group! They wanted to establish the free silver policy, have government ownership of railroads and have shorter working hours. The populist party was formed when a certain group of people wanted more power!
  • I wonder if they learned a lot?!
  • Another question people may ask is, what did the farmers REALLY want and why? Farmers were upset because they were going through overproduction, as well as railroads charging a lot to carry their products to the market. When they formed the Grange, they wanted states to regulate railroad freight trains and storage charges. Well, I hope you learned a lot, and I'll see you next time!
