Now Tom, don't you lie to me, you know I cannot tak it
Aunt Polly, I am all finished whitewashing the fence, can I play now?
Well, I never! You did it! Now go 'long n play and here is a fresh apple
Joe Harper's Army
Tom tricked all the boys to whitewash the fence for him and he went to tell Aunt Polly he finished. Aunt Polly did not believe him at first but Tom proved her wrong.
Tom showed Aunt Polly and she was filled with joy. Aunt Polly gave him a fresh apple and he hooked a doughnut and left.
Why are you beating me? It was Sid, I am innocent, I swear!
Tom then found his way into the square of the village where he found Joe Harper and his other friends and they pretended that they were at war and Tom was a general. After finishing "battle" they counted troops and found that Tom's army had won.
If I died, then Aunt Polly would regret how she treated me and cry. How would she feel then?
Tom and his friends headed home and on the way home, Tom spotted a beautiful new girl and he instantly forgot about his old crush Amy Lawrence. Tom showed off in front of the girl to impress her but she soon went inside her home, throwing a flower from behind her. Tom then went and his heart filled with joy and he picked up the flower.
Tom was happy all through supper but when Aunto Polly left the room, Sid attempted to take sugar from the sugar jar and it broke. Aunt Polly came in and blamed Tom who claimed to be innocent. Aunt Polly still did not believe him and he was belted.
Tom then sulked in a corner and imagined how sad Aunt Polly would be if he died and how she would regret how she treated him. After his cousin Mary came home, he left his house and found a desolate log in a river and decided to imagine his death. He then went to the new girl's house and laid in the grass when a bucket of water fell on him and he went home, sad and angry.
