On July 1st of 1987 in Illinois 10 year old Amy Schultz went looking for her runaway dog. The next morning she was found by an oil field worker near an access road in a rural area in Jerfferson County. Her body was found nude and face down with a boot print on her back and a pool of blood around her head. There was a large wound on the right side of her neck. Tire impressions 17 feet from her body along with her clothes.
Police in Montana reached out to the Jerfferson County police becasue an abandonded car with similar tire prints to the ones found at the crime scene where found. This car belonged to Cecil Sutherland who was investigated and found to match the pubic hairs on Amy's body. He had a pair of boots that matched the foot print on Amy's back. Amy's dog's hair was found on her body which also matched witht the hair found in Sutherland's car.
Sutherland was convicted with three counts of murder, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated sexual assult ans sentences to death. The death sentence later turned into life in prison without parole.
