In Chapter 3, the Ranch is set o fire by Tio Luis. They are lucky enough to get out quickly and safely, but they still can't find Abuelita.
I'll go find Abuelita
After the fire and discovering Papa's death, they finally managed to escape from Aguascalientes and get away from Esperanza's dreadful uncles. they then go on a train ride and sadly have to leave Abuelita behind for now.
Esperanza is quick to find that life will no longer be easy for her, her friends, and her family. as they set off to find work in California, they are soon sleeping on a mattress on a dirt floor , and this is the life they would now live.
Esperanza is fast to find that dealing with Marta won't be easy, especially on top of all the chores that had to be done around the house. A dust storm happens, and Mama is now dealing with Valley fever. Esperanza must do everything she can to be "la patrona", "he patron" for the family now.
"Stupid rich girl."
Esperanza gets upset with Miguel and calls him a peasant. the next day, he dissappears taking her money with him. Miguel then comes back with Abuelita, and Mama starts to feel better, and not have Valley Fever.
