Eighth grader Savanna Redding was escorted to the principal's office due to basis of a tip by another student that Redding may have ibuprofen on her person in violation of school policy.
Redding agreed to having her belongings searched and there was no sign of ibuprofen in her posession.
It was then decided that maybe the nurse should look into this search a bit further..
They had done a strip search on Redding to see if she had ibuprofen on her person. The nurse had Redding remove her outer clothing, and then told her to pull her bra out and shake it, and to pull out the elastic on her underpants, thus exposing her breasts and pelvic area to some degree.
Redding's mother filed suit against the Safford School District for violating Redding's fourth amendment right, to be free of unreasonable search and seizure. It was battled out in Supreme Court and had an outcome of an 8-1 vote in favor of Redding.
