person vs. person/ person vs. society
Most of the book took place at Central High school in Arkansas and at Melba's house. The fig. lang. is "there was fire in Daddy's eyes.
Dramatic irony because Melba didn't know why her teacher wouldn't let her get her book out the classroom and didn't know why her teacher was telling her to hurry home. Protaganist because Melba's grandmother is always saing something positive and always looking on the brighter side of things.
Person vs. person because Andy was serious about killing Melba. Person vs. society because Melba wanted to ride the merry-go-round and the man said no because she was black not white.
Point of view
One of the moods in the story is when Melba's eyes were so intense, so sharp that she might die. One of the tones in the book is when Melba asked the reporter does he wish he were a negro because he asked her if she had wished she were white.
When some girls threw a flaming paper wad at Melba in the bathroom stall and locked Melba in the bathroom stall.
The point of view for the book is first person because when Melba is speaking she uses I,me, and my.
