In the beginning of the play, Ruth has to wake up Travis and her husband Walter so they can get into the bathroom before the Johnsons. They share a hall bathroom with another family.
Ruth Is Pregnant.
How far along are you..?
This was the scene when Travis asked his mom for the 50 cents that he needed for school. His mom told him that they didn't have the money. His dad walked in and told Ruth not to put those ideas in Travis's head. He gave Travis the money anyway.
I got them from my sister. She sent them.
In this scene, Beneatha and Mama were talking about God. Mama said that we should thank god for Beneatha's achievements. Beneatha said that god should not get all the credit and that she doesn't believe in god. Mama smacks her in the face and tells her to repeat Mama and say that there is still a god as long as she lives with her mom.
The Check Is Here
THE CHECK CAME!!!!!!
Ruth comes home from the "doctor" and tells Mama and Beneatha that she is 2 months pregnant. Ruth wasn't very happy about it because her and her husband haven't been getting along.
Joseph Asagai is Beneatha's friend from college. He is from Nigeria and he asked his sister back home if she could send a traditional Nigerian headdress. She sent one to him and he gave it to Beneatha. He actually likes Beneatha but she doesn't know how she feels about him.
Mama, Ruth, Walter, Travis, and Beneatha are happy because the check finally came! Mama now has $10,000 and she needs to decide what it's going in to.
