Washington made his great retreat. He left the campfires in his camp burning so the British thought the Americans were still in their camp when they actually were retreating to Manhattan.

During the battle of Trenton Washington did a sneak attack on a Hessian garrison and captured over 1,000 Hessians. The Battle of Princeton was a victory for the Americans which boosted morale.
Southern Campaign:Cowpens & Guilford Courthouse
In the first battle or the Battle of Freeman's Farm, farmers from nearby farms were sniping at the British and killed many British troops. Although the British won the battle with a pyrrhic victory they had few supplies. The Battle of Bemis Heights caused the British to surrender thus giving the Americans the victory at Saratoga.
The Battle of Yorktown

Washington and his troops set up camp for the winter. It was very cold and the Americans had very little supplies or warmth.
In Cowpens, the Americans were on top of a hill and were firing down at the British and this allowed them to kill many soldiers and get a victory. However, at Guilford Courthouse, the British used grapeshots which were bags full of bullets and firing these killed many people on both sides.
The Americans surrounded the Cornwallis and his troops and Cornwallis surrendered which meant Washington won the war and America was its own country now.
