The man lacks the safety instincts that is important for a dangerous journey. Soon meets a dog, who is even smarter than the man.
The man is careless and arrogant. His foot falls through a pond of ice cold water when he tries to push the dog. The only thing he can think of is that he will be late to meet his friends.
The man takes off his foot gear and his gloves. He decides that it is a good idea to make a fire so that he can stay warm. But he makes it under a tree. The snow from it falls on top of his fire. This makes him very angry
The man realizes what he did wrong. He did not listen to the Old Timer of Sulphere Creek. He knows now that it is too late
The man dies in his sleep. The dog finds the man dead. He decides to go in the direction of a camp to get help.
