  • Climax
  • After he leaves New York he sees the same landscape which becomes tedious and annoying. He is driving fast and trying to get to Hollywood fast. But then something catches his eye that confuses and scares him.
  • Resolution
  • While Adams was going down the Pennsylvania Turnpike Adams saw a hitchhiker who looked exactly like the one he had almost hit. He didn't think about it much and just kept driving thinking that it was just a coincidence that two people looked exactly the same. Then he started seeing this man constantly which scared Adams.
  • After he reached New Mexico he starts seeing the man every other mile unless he drove at an extreme speed. Then when he is convinced that he has lost his mind he pulls over and calls his mother. When he calls his mother another women picks up the phone and says that his mother is in the hospital and that he is dead.
  • The women says that Adams died in a car crash on the Brooklyn Bridge when a man stepped out into the road.  The women also told Adams that his mother was in the hospital due to a nervous breakdown that came after her son had died in the accident. Adams stays in the telephone booth and doesn't hear the operator tell him that his time is up multiple times.
